As a young adult there are a lot of worries: sorting out career, relationships, setting up your future. All of that alone can be stress enough, but add depression, anxiety, and the psychological struggles that come with that stress it gets even worse. While your struggles are very real, it can be difficult to get anyone to take them seriously. People your age don’t have any more insight than you do about it, and older adults don’t remember how frightening these struggles can be. They don’t remember feeling like you’re behind on the imaginary timeline, or feeling less accomplished than you should be. You aren’t alone.

Therapy may seem like an odd choice for “normal” stress via life changes, but it can be a great place to think things through. A therapist can offer guidance that helps you realize that you’re not any more or less than your peers, your life isn’t going to be forever affected by your choices, and can assist you in learning to better handle stress.

It’s important to not underestimate the stress brought about by normal life transitions. You and I can work together to find creative solutions in a space that takes your worries seriously, despite how “simple” they may seem from the outside. Sometimes a parent or a friend just won’t cut it. An unbiased party can really help in you finding your own way.
